Birds in the Classroom has been renamed in honor of MCA founder Darlene Fiske.
Donations continue to roll in ensuring grants will be available for years. Her legacy has taken wing! Please continue to give!
Would your school or a classroom like up to $500.00 to help teach about birds?
McHenry County Audubon is offering up to $500.00 in grants each year to an accredited McHenry County School and/or Classroom (grades K – 12) for the purpose of furthering the understanding and appreciation of local bird species and their habitat needs – in our county and beyond.
Projects that may be considered include, but are not limited to:
- Bird feeding stations
- Bird-friendly plants for schoolyard habitat enhancement
- Interpretive signage for schoolyard habitat
- Bird books
- Curricular materials
- Audio-visual materials
- Partnership building with schools in “our” birds’ wintering grounds
- Transportation funding for bird-related field trips, etc…

Applications are accepted between October 15 – November 15 each year.
Awards are announced by December 15.
